Fine start for champions Ghajnsielem

bov-gfa-leagues-logoChampions Ghajnsielem kicked-off their BOV GFA First Division with a comfortable 3-0 win over rivals Xewkija Tigers at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Xewkija had Rodney Buttigieg sent off on the 14th minute and twenty minutes later, Alex Tramboo was sent off for the Blacks who however managed to take the lead thanks to Chris Camilleri on the 36th. Raphael Kooh Sohna converted a penalty on the 78th and John Camilleri sealed the issue with a third goal on the 90th.

Nadur Youngsters defeated Xaghra United 1-0 in a clash between the two newly-promoted sides. Milos Stojanovic scored the all-important goal on the 21st.

On Wednesday, Kercem Ajax came from behind to beat Oratory Youths 2-1. Everton Felipe Da Silva Santos put the Youths ahead on the 17th but Elton Vella levelled matters on the 63rd and after Oratory had Javier Polo Longarela sent off, Kercem notched the winner through Trayo Grozev ten minutes from time.

On Friday, Victoria Hotspurs and SK Victoria Wanderers shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Just before half-time, a penalty by Predrag Djordevic put the Wanderers ahead and although they had Sam Harland sent off, Milanko Raskovic doubled the score on the 69th. However the Hotspurs made a good comeback as five minutes later, Charles Mercieca pulled one back and Henrique Maciel equalised on the 79th.

In the BOV GFA Second Division, Sannat Lions defeated St. Laurence Spurs 1-0 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium, courtesy of a Sunday Baala strike on the 15th. Charlon Tabone had a penalty saved by the Sannat goalkeeeper on the half-hour.

In another match, Zebbug Rovers defeated Qala Saints 3-1 thanks to a brace by Ikechukwu Igwemeke on the 31st and 42nd and a goal by Manwel Cordina on the 62nd; Steve Dimech had temporarily reduced the gap on the 55th.
