BOV Division 1: Mqabba held in a draw, Pietà beaten

BOV-First-DivisionMqabba and Pietà Hotspurs both dropped their first points in the BOV First Division on Saturday after Senglea Athletic were held in a draw by Rabat Ajax on Friday.

Mqabba and Melita shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Centenary Stadium while at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Gharghur scored twice in the final eight minutes to beat Pietà Hotspurs. Just before half-time, Christian Grech put the Hotspurs ahead but Keith Fedele equalised on the 82nd and Muda Fagbeja made it 2-1 three minutes later.

At the Centenary Stadium, Sirens continued where they had left in last week’s win over Rabat as they defeated Vittoriosa Stars 4-3 at the Centenary Stadium, coming back from two goals down. Liam Gauci gave teh Stars a two goal lead with goals on the 15th and 32nd. An own goal put Sirens back in contention just before half-time but Vittoriosa went 3-1 ahead seven minutes in the second half with a Leighton Grech strike. However Christian Caruana scored a second goal for Sirens on the 66th and five minutes later, Jonas Rodriguez Ekani equalised. Christian Caruana notched the winner on the 78th minute.

In another match, Fgura United returned to winning ways as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Joseph Chetcuti gave Fgura the lead on the half-hour and Rafael Junior de Fex Marriaga doubled the score two minutes from the end of the first half. Two minutes in the second half, Ratko Mandic scored a consolation goal for the Rangers.

Senglea and Mqabba lead the way with 7 points, followed by Gharghur, Fgura, Sirens, Pietà on 6, Vittoriosa and Melita 4, Naxxar and Lija 3, Zebbug and Rabat 1, Marsa and Qormi 0.
