BOV Division 1: Mqabba take sole leadership as Senglea lose derby

BOV-First-DivisionMqabba took sole leadership in the BOV First Division as they registered a third win in four matches, defeating Naxxar Lions 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium in one of four matches in programme on Sunday.

Paul Chimezie scored the all-important goal for Mqabba on the 31st minute.

A goal by Arber Dhrami on the 14th minute gave Vittoriosa Stars a win over Senglea Athletic in the Cottonera derby. For Senglea, this was the first defeat.

Qormi claimed their first three points as they came from behind to register a most dramatic 3-2 win over Marsa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Luis Andre de Melo put Marsa ahead and Chris Cutajar doubled the score four minutes later. On the hour, Noah Olawole Ojuola pulled one back, Tensior Guzman equalised on the 91st and Carmelo Farrugia notched the winner on the 92nd.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Melita and Zebbug Rangers shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Charles Ikenna Kean gave Zebbug a two-goal lead thanks to goals on the 1st minute and the 41st but Ivan Tufegzic reduced the gap on the hour when converting a penalty and thirteen minutes from time, Alan Borg Olivier levelled matters.

Mqabba lead the way with 10 points, followed by Vittoriosa, Sirens, Gharghur, Senglea, Lija and Fgura on 7, Pietà and Naxxar 6, Melita 5, Rabat 4, Qormi 3, Zebbug 2 and Marsa 0.
