Under-21 side hosts Latvia on Friday

UEFAUnder21The Malta Under-21 side will be aiming for a positive result as the team led by Silvio Vella hosts Latvia in a match from Group 1 of the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round at the Hibernians Stadium on Friday, kick-off at 18:00.

In their last outing, the Under-21 side lost to Belgium by the odd goal in five with the Belgians, who are chasing the top spot in the group, notching the winner on the 90th after a great comeback by the Maltese who came back from two goals down. Malta now lies at the bottom of the table on five points, one behind Friday’s opponents – Latvia and two behind Moldova – Malta’s opponents on Tuesday.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Silvio Vella said the team is looking forward for these two matches. He said that the team is well aware that should they manage to get positive results from these matches, they would obtain a record number of points in this competition.

Vella could not field his best formation as both Luke Montebello and Johann Bezzina are ruled out injured although there are slim hopes that Bezzina would recover for Tuesday’s game.
