BOV Division 2: Qrendi join Zejtun on top

BOV-Second-DivisionQrendi joined Zejtun Corinthians on top the BOV Second Division table as they registered a most comfortable 6-0 win over Ghaxaq in one of six matches in programme on Saturday.

Giovanni Galea was the hero for Qrendi as he scored three of the goals at the Sirens Stadium, putting them ahead on the 2nd minute and doubling the score on the 5th. Dassier Sammut made it 3-0 on the 15th and two minutes later, Dhonathan Santos da Hora added another. Dassier Sammut scored the fifth goal on the 68th and Giovanni Galea added another on the 86th. For Qrendi, this was the fourth successive win.

Zejtun Corinthians dropped their first points as they were held in a 2-2 draw by Mgarr United in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Kumpei Tanaka put Zejtun ahead on the 18th but goals by Matthew Agius on the 68th and Lazar Doric two minutes later turned the score in favour of Mgarr. However Anthony Ewurum made it 2-2 for Zejtun twelve minutes from time.

San Gwann moved one point behind the leaders as Abeeb Abiodun Williams scored the all-important goal on the 59th minute in the clash with Zabbar St. Patrick at the Luxol Stadium.

Siggiewi defeated St. George’s 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Jason Camilleri put Siggiewi ahead and Didier Sohna doubled the score on the 63rd. Aaron Hili scored a consolation goal for the Cospicua side on the 71st minute.

Lesley Cassar Jackson gave Birzebbuga St. Peter’s a narrow win over Attard at the Luxol Stadium with a goal on the 20th minute. On the other hand, Marsaxlokk defeated Gudja United 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to goals by Sergio Hili on the 31st, Marlon Grech on the 89th and another Sergio Hili strike in added time.

Qrendi and Zejtun lead the way with 13 points, followed by San Gwann on 12, Zabbar 9, Siggiewi 8, Marsaxlokk, Attard and Birzebbuga 7, Swieqi 6, Mgarr 5, St. George’s 4, Gudja 3, Ghaxaq and Mellieha 2.
