Sliema, Mosta share spoils in draw

sliema-mosta161030jonbSliema Wanderers failed to extend their winning streak to five matches as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Mosta at the National Stadium on Sunday.

A draw which leaves John Buttigieg’s side in sixth place and Mosta second from bottom.

The Wanderers had one change from the team which defeated Pembroke as Gabriel Aquilina replaced the suspended Peter Xuereb. Mosta, on the other hand, had six changes as Luca Martinelli, Kyle Frendo, Tristan Grant, Njongo Priso, Ricardo Martin and Kemar Reid replaced Emerson Vella, Jaroslav Repa, Lucky Oseghale, Kemmu Jackson, Edin Murga and the suspended Kurt Magro.

Sliema went close to taking the lead on the 13th minute but Jean Paul Farrugia failed to connect off an inviting pass from the left by Salomon Wisdom.

The Wanderers managed to take the lead on the 24th minute when off a cross by Muchardi from the right, Jean Paul Farrugia’s conclusion was blocked by Cini and off the rebound, Salomon Wisdom placed the ball at the back of the net.

Mosta equalised twelve minutes in the second half when off a cross by Kevaun Atkinson from the right, Njongo Priso’s low shot was deflected by Alex Muscat past goalkeeper Zammit.
