BOV Division 3: Santa Lucia close in on leaders

BOV-Third-DivisionSanta Lucia moved second, just three points behind leaders Kalkara as they defeated Mtarfa 4-2 at the Sirens Stadium while the leaders were held in a draw by Xghajra Tornadoes.

A brace by Sebastian Perdomo on the 19th and 39th and another by Gilbert Camilleri on the 50th and 57th gave Santa Lucia a four-goal lead. A penalty by Warren Zerafa on the 71st and Ryan Debono on the 78th reduced the score for Mtarfa.

At the Luxol Stadium, Xghajra held Kalkara in a 2-2 draw. A penalty by Timmy Thomas put Kalkara ahead on the 21st minute but Stefi Cale equalised two minutes later. Timmy Thomas restored the lead for Kalkara on the 34th but four minutes in added time, Noel Tabone notched the equaliser for Xghajra.

Luqa St. Andrew’s defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 2-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to goals by Leeroy Bonnett on the 78th and 96th. A win which puts Luqa on level points with the Lightnings in third place.

Kirkop United defeated Mdina Knights 4-2 at the Luxol Stadium. Andre Cutajar put Kirkop ahead on the 4th minute but Ayrton Buhagiar equalised on the 8th. Seven minutes in the second half, Fabian Fonseca restored the lead for Kirkop and although Lydon Cilia levelled matters on the 61st, a penalty by Kirsten Farrugia on the 68th and a Karl Caruana effort on the 93rd handed Kirkop the three points.

At the Sirens Stadium, Zurrieq and Dingli Swallows shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

In a match at the Charles Abela Stadium, Ta’ Xbiex registered their second win as they beat Marsaskala 2-0.

Kalkara lead the way with 23 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 20, Luqa and Sta. Venera on 17, Kirkop 16, Xghajra and Mdina 15, Msida 14, Dingli 11, Zurrieq 10, Mtarfa and Ta’ Xbiex 6 and Marsaskala 0.
