BOV Division 2: Zabbar close in on San Gwann

Zabbar St. Patrick moved to just one point behind third-placed San Gwann in the BOV Second Division following a narrow win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Charles Abela Stadium on Sunday.

Karl Sacco scored the all-important goal for Alfred Attard’s side for their fourth consecutive win.

San Gwann dropped two important points in a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium. Alan Borg put San Gwann ahead on the 34th but Sergio Hili rescued a point for Marsaxlokk four minutes in added time.

Meanwhile Qrendi came from behind to beat Mellieha 4-1 at the Luxol Stadium to re-join Zejtun Corinthians on top. Michael Micallef put Mellieha ahead on the 20th but Tonio D’Amato equalised five minutes later. Dhonatan Santos da Hora made it 2-1 just before half-time and a brace by Giovanni Galea on the 64th and 86th sealed the issue.

Siggiewi defeated Ghaxaq 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium. Kim Buhagiar put Siggiewi ahead on the 20th but goals by Florin Anton on the 56th and Daniel Zahra ten minutes later turned the score in Ghaxaq’s favour. However Didier Sohna equalised on the 69th and Jason Camilleri notched the winner on the 91st minute.

Attard beat St. George’s 3-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Nick Ghio on the 9th, Mauro Grioli on the 20th and Ghio once again on the hour.

Swieqi United returned to winning ways as they beat Mgarr United 4-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Jordan Sean Farrugia Coleiro, Ion-Alin Margarit and a brace by Roderick Taliana did the job for Swieqi with Kenneth Aquilina scoring Mgarr’s temporary equaliser.

Zejtun and Qrendi lead the way with 26 points, followed by San Gwann on 23, Zabbar 22, Siggiewi 18, Birzebbuga 16, Attard and Swieqi 13, St. George’s 10, Mellieha and Marsaxlokk 8, Gudja 6, Mgarr and Ghaxaq 5.
