The Stripes are coming from back-to-back defeats to Hamrun and Sliema and won just one out of the last six matches. A rather disappointing run which left them sharing fifth place with the Wanderers on 24 points, ten behind leaders Balzan. Mosta, on the other hand, have gone nine matches without a win.
Slovak coach Zsolt Hornyák will be making his first outing as Mosta coach after taking over earlier this week. He replaces Ivan Zammit whose contract was terminated following a 0-3 defeat to Gzira United. The Blues are currently joint-last together with Pembroke Athleta on nine points.
Mosta should welcome back Kurt Magro who was on the verge of leaving the club while Chinatu Francis Onwudinjo and Dany Djoufack should be back after serving a one-match ban. Birkirkara, on the other hand, welcome back Nikola Vukanac and Srdjan Dimitrov but they will be without goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric who is suspended by the club.
In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Mosta 2-0.
