BOV Division 1: Derby win puts Vittoriosa in second place

Vittoriosa Stars defeated Senglea Athletic 2-0 in the Cottonera derby – a clash between two teams challenging for promotion from the BOV First Division at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday. A win which puts Vittoriosa three points behind leaders Naxxar and one ahead of Qormi.

Obinna Obiefule put the Stars ahead on the 11th minute and Ryan Previ doubled the score on the 25th.

Zebbug Rangers claimed three precious points in a 2-1 win over Melita at the Centenary Stadium. Toraino Singleton put Melita ahead on the 12th minute but Tomislav Trebovac equalised on the 44th and then notched the winner nine minutes from time.

A brace by Christian Caruana on the 3rd and 71st minute gave Sirens a 2-0 win over Fgura United in another match at the Centenary Stadium.

On the other hand, Pietà Hotspurs and Rabat Ajax shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Clive Gauci put the Hotspurs ahead five minutes from the end of the first half but Joseph Caruana converted a penalty to level matters on the 72nd minute.

Naxxar lead the way with 35 points, followed by Vittoriosa on 32, Qormi 31, Lija, Senglea and Mqabba 29, Sirens and Pietà 26, Marsa 20, Melita 19, Zebbug 18, Rabat 15, Fgura 14 and Gharghur 9.
