BOV Division 2: Zabbar join Zejtun on top

Zabbar St. Patrick joined Zejtun Corinthians on top the BOV Second Division as they defeated Mgarr United while the Corinthians were held in a draw by Qrendi in two of the matches in programme on Saturday.

The clash between Zejtun and Qrendi at the Luxol Stadium ended in a goalless draw while at the Centenary Stadium, Zabbar beat Mgarr 2-1. Karl Sacco put St. Patrick ahead on the 22nd minute and five minutes from half-time, Lazar Doric equalised for Mgarr; however an own goal eight minutes from time handed Zabbar the three points.

In a match at the Charles Abela Stadium, San Gwann came back from two goals down to earn a point in a 3-3 draw with Siggiewi. Nezar Fawzi Abouhaisa put San Gwann ahead on the 28th but goals by Chike Anthony Eze on the 34th, Mark Camilleri on the 50th and Eze on the 72nd put Siggiewi 3-1 ahead. However Sergio Hili reduced the gap on the 81st and Abeeb Abiodun Williams equalised thanks to a 96th minute penalty.

Swieqi United moved fifth as a goal by Kenneth Ekezie six minutes from the end of the first half gave them a narrow win over bottom-placed Ghaxaq at the Centenary Stadium.

Mellieha and Marsaxlokk earned a point each in a 2-2 draw at the Charles Abela Stadium. Nicholas Zammit put Mellieha ahead on the 45th and although Jeremiah Ani equalised on the 66th, Mellieha regained the lead thanks to Ryan Cutajar on the 73rd. However Evair Grech restored equilibrium five minutes later.

In another match, Attard defeated Gudja United 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium thanks to goals by Lydon Cuschieri on the 20th and 32nd and a consolation goal by Marko Dimitrijevic for Gudja sixteen minutes from time.

Zejtun and Zabbar lead the way with 52 points, followed by Qrendi on 48, San Gwann 47, Swieqi 30, Birzebbuga 29, Siggiewi 28, Attard 24, Mgarr 22, St. George’s 19, Marsaxlokk 18, Mellieha 17, Gudja 15 and Ghaxaq 11.
