BOV Division 1: Lija move top after defeating Senglea

Lija Athletic joined Naxxar Lions on top the BOV First Division table thanks to a 2-0 win over Senglea Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in one of four matches in programme on Sunday.

Abubakar Bello Osagie put Lija ahead on the 27th and Erjon Beu doubled the score on the 74th.

Qormi dropped two important points as they were held in a 1-1 draw by Gharghur. Lee Galea put Gharghur ahead on the 69th but eight minutes later, Noah Olawole Ojuola rescued a point for Qormi.

Pietà Hotspurs defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Gabriel Mensah put the Hotspurs ahead after just three minutes and although Tomislav Trebovac levelled matters on the 32nd, Christian Degabriele made it 2-1 just before half-time. An own goal one minute in the second half, increased the lead further with a Christian Grech penalty five minutes from time handing them a 4-1 win.

Vittoriosa Stars, on the other hand, suffered a third consecutive defeat as they lost 1-3 to Melita at the Centenary Stadium. Liam Gauci put the Stars ahead on the 5th minute but Toraino Singleton levelled matters on the 32nd, Axl Xuereb made it 2-1 for Melita on the 74th and five minutes from time, Alan Borg Olivier sealed the issue with a third goal.

Naxxar and Lija lead the way with 42 points, followed by Senglea and Mqabba on 41, Qormi 39, Vittoriosa 36, Pietà 32, Sirens 30, Melita 27, Marsa 25, Zebbug 24, Rabat 21, Gharghur 16 and Fgura 15.
