Birkirkara girls one win away from championship

Birkirkara moved a step closer to the championship in the BOV Women’s First Division as they defeated Mgarr United 3-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium on Wednesday to regain a ten-point lead over second-placed Hibernians.

Yasmeen Vella put the Stripes ahead on teh 12th minute, Gabriella Zahra doubled the score on the 29th, Raina Giusti made it 3-0 on the 57th and Rebecca Vella scored a consolation goal for Mgarr on the 73rd minute.

On Tuesday, Hibernians defeated Gozo FC 4-0 at the Mgarr Ground thanks to a Ylenia Carabott hat-trick (30, 76 and 85) and a goal by Ruth Steer Chetham on the 36th.

On the other hand, a goal by Rodianne Zerafa on the 40th minute gave Raiders (Luxol) a narrow win over Kirkop United in another match at the Mgarr Ground.

In the BOV Women’s Second Division, champions Swieqi United maintained a perfect record with a fourteenth win in as many matches as they beat Kirkop United Team B 8-1 at the Zebbug Ground. Emma Moore notched a hat-trick (8, 59 and 68) with Yolande Attard (25), Sammy Jo Barbara (31), Becky Naudi (33), Krista Montfort (47) and Kate Galea (79) scoring the other goals. Maria Cassar had notched the temporary equaliser on the 14th minute.

In a match at the Charles Abela Stadium, Kimberly Borg scored four as Tarxien Rainbows defeated Hamrun Spartans 6-0. She scored on the 25th, 42nd and 79th and after a goal by Jade Schembri on the 82nd, she added another on the 85th before Stephanie Torpiano scored the sixth goal on the 87th.
