Kalkara moved a step closer to the championship in the BOV Third Division after defeating Xghajra Tornados 3-1 in one of the two matches in programme on Monday at the Centenary Stadium.

Ryan Sell put Kalkara ahead on the 13th minutes, Timothy Thomas doubled the score on the 45th when he converted a penalty and Ryan Sell made it 3-0 in added time. Xghajra pulled one back on the 75th minute thanks to an own goal.

In another match, Mdina Knights defeated Kirkop United 3-1 thanks to goals by Dylan Mintoff on the 20th, Daniel Cremona on the 41st and Mark Saliba on the 55th. Ruben Scicluna scored a consolation goal for Kirkop three minutes from time.

Kalkara lead the way with 53 points, followed by Luqa on 47, Santa Lucia 46, Msida 39, Sta. Venera 37, Xghajra 34, Kirkop 33, Mdina 30, Zurrieq 28, Dingli 19, Mtarfa and Ta’ Xbiex 13 and Marsaskala 3.
