Sliema Wanderers, Floriana reach FA Trophy final

Sliema Wanderers and Floriana will be contesting the final of the FA Trophy after both emerged as winners in the two semi-finals which were played on Saturday. The final scheduled for May 20th will therefore be contested by the two teams which won this competition most – Sliema twenty-one times and Floriana nineteen.

At the National Stadium, holders Sliema Wanderers defeated Tarxien Rainbows 3-0.

The Wanderers managed to take the lead on the 23rd minute when off a Ricardo Correa Duarte freekick from the right, Denni Rocha dos Santos rose high to head home past Andrea Cassar.

Sliema doubled the score seven minutes from the end of the first half thanks to Leonardo Incorvaia whose header, off another Correa freekick from the right, gave the Tarxien goalkeeper no chance.

Mark Scerri made it 3-0 on the 64th minute when he received an assist by Frank Temile on the left and slotted the ball past Cassar from inside the area.

At the Gozo Stadium, Floriana defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 3-1.

Steve Pisani put the Greens ahead on the 23rd minute but before the end of the first half, Fernando Giarrizzo levelled matters two minutes in added time.

Eight minutes in the second half, Maurizio Vella restored the lead for Floriana. Steve Pisani made it 3-1 on the 71st minute when he converted a penalty.

Fernando Giarrizzo was sent off for the Wanderers on the 74th minute to leave his side in ten men.
