Birkirkara girls off to Slovenia to take part in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers

BOV Women’s First Division champions and Knock-Out winners Birkirkara will be travelling to Slovenia on Monday to take part in Group 6 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round between the 22nd and 29th August.

It will be a tough group for the Stripes who will be facing FC Zurich Frauen of Switzerland, FC Minsk of Belarus and hosts ZNK Olimpija Ljubljana. They will be facing Minsk on Tuesday and Zurich on Friday at the Ljubljana Sport Park and Olimpija Ljubljana at the Stadion Stozice on Monday.

New Birkirkara coach Melania Bajada took over in June and in recent weeks, has been preparing the team in the best possible way for the club’s fifth experience in the most prestigious competition of Women’s football.

The squad is composed of nineteen Maltese players and the list includes no less than eighth players of the Under-19’s Team. A decision which is in line with the club’s vision of investing in the best young talent.

The players who will be travelling to Slovenia are: Janice Xuereb, Gabriella Zahra, Ann-Marie Said, Kim Parnis, Stephania Farrugia, Samantha Zarb, Mariah Sciberras, Tracy Teuma, Alishia Sultana, Sarah Urpani, Nina Dimech, Raina Giusti, Maria Fenech, Veronique Mifsud, Yasmeen Vella, Michela Felice, Nicole Zammit, Kelly Agius Pace, Sonia Schembri.
