Paul Zammit appointed Birkirkara FC coach

Paul Zammit has been appointed once again as coach of Birkirkara FC. He replaces Peter Pullicino who had taken over as coach earlier this summer.

This will be Zammit’s third spell as coach of Birkirkara after joining them in summer 2009 on a two-year deal. His contract was not renewed at the expiry of the contract but a few months later, in October 2011, he was re-appointed as the club’s Head Coach.

During these two spells as Birkirkara coach, he led the club to two BOV Premier League championships, two Super Cups and an FA Trophy.

After starting his career as coach with Mosta, Zammit joined Valletta in November 2005 where he spent three and a half years until June 2009, winning a Premier League championship in 2007/08. He returned with Valletta in summer 2015, leading them to the title on the first attempt but last season, Valletta finished fourth and only managed to qualify for the UEFA Europa League after Birkirkara’s application for a UEFA licence was rejected.

At Birkirkara, Zammit will be assisted by Mark Buttigieg and Godfrey Grima.

After two league games, Birkirkara are still chasing their first win following a draw with Floriana and a defeat to Gzira.
