Gzira make it five wins in a row

Leaders Gzira United kept marching on in the BOV Premier League as they defeated St. Andrews 3-2 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Saints took the lead on the 14th minute when off an assist by Kemmu Degran Jackson, Aiden Friggieri beat goalkeeper Anthony Curmi.

However on the 32nd minute, Gzira levelled matters when Matthew Tabone lost the ball to Amado Samb who advanced upfield and anticipated the goalkeeper by serving Samba Tounkara who deposited the ball inside the empty net.

Six minutes in the second half, the Maroons forged ahead thanks to Samba Tounkara whose rising shot beat Calleja Cremona following an assist by Andrew Cohen from the left.

Five minutes later, Gzira added another when Matthew Gauci brought Amadou Samb down inside the area and the Senegalese striker made no mistake from the penalty spot.

St. Andrews reduced the gap on the 72nd minute when they were awarded a penalty after Sem Kamana floored Kevaughn Atkinson inside the area and Joseph Farrugia converted from the penalty spot.
