BOV Division 1: Pembroke score four in second half to extend positive run

With four second-half goals, Pembroke Athleta came from behind to beat Rabat Ajax 4-1 in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday.

At the Centenary Stadium, Adam Smeir put the Magpies ahead on the 19th minute but two minutes in the second half, Njongo Priso levelled matters and a hat-trick by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza on the 58th, 61st and 91st handed Pembroke the three points.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Zebbug Rangers and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Centenary Stadium. Larson Mallia put Zebbug ahead on the 26th minute but Saturday Nanapere equalised three minutes from the end of the first half.

After three draws in their first three matches, Qrendi registered their first win as they defeated Sirens 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Shunsuke Nakamura put Qrendi ahead on the 34th minute and Kenneth Abela doubled the score just before half-time. Daniel Agius pulled one back for Sirens on the 56th minute but deep into stoppage time, an own goal sealed the issue for Qrendi.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, San Gwann and Marsa shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Thiago Lopez de Souza put San Gwann ahead but Mark Gauci levelled matters for Marsa.

Pietà and Qormi lead the way with 9 points, followed by Zebbug on 7, Qrendi, Sirens and San Gwann 6, Vittoriosa, Zejtun and Zabbar 5, Mqabba 4, Marsa 2, Rabat and Melita 0 and Pembroke -2. Pembroke started with a ten-point deduction.
