BOV Division 3: Lightnings maintain perfect record

Sta. Venera Lightnings maintained a perfect record in the BOV Third Division as they defeated Msida St. Joseph 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium in one of the four matches in programme on Sunday.

William Camilleri converted a penalty to put Sta. Venera ahead on the 22nd minute and although Mario Crupi equalised on the 68th, leading scorer Eddie Wileman notched the winner one minute in added time.

Kirkop United moved second thanks to a 3-2 win over Mtarfa in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium. Shaun Cutajar put Kirkop ahead six minutes in the second half and Mohammed Ali Alfarjani equalised four minutes later. Kirkop regained the lead thanks to Michael Theuma on the 58th and Karl Caruana made it 3-1 on the 75th. Alfarjani reduced the gap for Mtarfa three minutes from time.

Mellieha suffered their first defeat as they lost 0-1 to Xghajra Tornados at the Sirens Stadium. Royter Degiorgio scored the all-important goal on the 37th minute.

On the other hand, Dingli Swallows registered their first win as they beat Ghaxaq 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium courtesy of a Peter Andrejco strike on the 12th minute.

Sta. Venera lead the way with 12 points, followed by Kirkop United on 10, Mellieha 9, Zurrieq and Xghajra 7, Msida 6, Dingli 4, Mdina and Mtarfa 3, Ghaxaq and Marsaskala 1 and Ta’ Xbiex 0.
