BOV Division 2: Four teams on top as Fgura, Birzebbuga suffer first defeats

Siggiewi and Swieqi United joined Fgura United and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s on top the BOV Second Division table as the latter two suffered their first defeats on Sunday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Trayo Grozev scored twice as Siggiewi defeated Fgura United 2-0. Grozev converted a penalty on the 32nd and sealed the issue with another goal three minutes from time.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Attard held Swieqi United in a goalless draw.

Kurt Tabone scored the all-important goal for St. George’s as they returned to winning ways, defeating Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0 at the Luxol Stadium.

On the other hand, Kalkara registered an impressive 6-1 win over Mgarr United in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Timmy Thomas put Kalkara ahead on the 19th and Dylan Xuereb doubled the score three minutes later. Thomas added another two goals on the 28th and 40th to give Kalkara a four-goal lead before half-time. Lazar Doric pulled one back on the 65th but Julian Spiteri made it 5-1 with Timmy Thomas adding another in added time.

Swieqi, Fgura, Siggiewi and Birzebbuga lead the way with 11 points, followed by Kalkara on 10, Santa Lucia 9, Gudja 8, Mgarr 7, Marsaxlokk and Attard 5, St. George’s 4, Luqa 3 and Gharghur 2. St. George’s had two points deducted.
