Maroons hope to extend positive run

Leaders Gzira United will be aiming at extending their positive run as they take on Balzan in one of the three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Friday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and the Centenary Stadium.

Naxxar Lions take on St. Andrews and Lija Athletic face Birkirkara in the other two matches.

Naxxar Lions continue to chase their first win as they take on St. Andrews. Three points separate the two teams with the Saints lying third from bottom on nine points, three ahead of Naxxar. St. Andrews registered two wins after defeating Balzan and Senglea while Naxxar collected their only points in draws with Valletta, Lija and Hibernians.

In their last outing, St. Andrews lost 0-1 to Mosta while Naxxar suffered a 1-2 defeat to Tarxien.

Naxxar could not count on the suspended Oussenyou Ndaye.

Lija Athletic vs Birkirkara, kick-off 18:00 at Victor Tedesco Stadium
After losing three out of the last four matches including back-to-back 0-3 defeats to Valletta and Sliema Wanderers, Birkirkara will be all out to return to winning ways as they face bottom-placed Lija Athletic who collected their only point so far in a 1-1 draw with Naxxar. Last week, Lija lost 2-4 to Valletta.

Gzira United vs Balzan, kick-off 20:15 at Victor Tedesco Stadium
This weekend’s big match is the clash between Gzira United and Balzan. The Maroons lead the way in the BOV Premier League table with 19 points from seven matches, dropping their only points so far in a draw with Floriana. Last week, they registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Hamrun Spartans.

Balzan, on the other hand, are coming from five consecutive positive results and are currently fifth on twelve points. They are coming from a 1-1 draw with Floriana.
