Bojan Kaljevic sinks Maroons

Bojan Kaljevic scored twice as Balzan defeated ten-man Gzira United 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium to condemn the Maroons to their first defeat.

A win which puts Balzan in third place, four points behind the leaders. This was the third win in four matches for Marco Micovic’s side and the sixth consecutive positive result.

Balzan forged ahead six minutes in the second half thanks to Bojan Kaljevic who slotted the ball past Anthony Curmi following an assist from the right by Alfred Effiong.

However two minutes later, Gzira equalised when off a cross by Roderick Briffa, Emmanuel Okoye headed home past goalkeeper Janjusevic.

Fifteen minutes from time, the Maroons were reduced to ten men after Souleymane Diamoutene picked a second yellow card for a foul just outside the area.

One minute in added time, Balzan notched the winner when they were awarded a penalty after a defender handled the ball inside the area and Bojan Kaljevic converted from the penalty spot.
