BOV Division 2: Swieqi beat Birzebbuga in top-of-the-table clash

A penalty by Roderick Taliana on the 12th minute and a goal by Sadat Suraka seven minutes in the second half gave Swieqi United a 2-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s in a top-of-the-table clash from the BOV Second Division at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Santa Lucia and Gudja United earned a point each in a 1-1 draw. Nicholas Zammit put Gudja ahead on the 9th minute but Gaynor D’Amato equalised one minute in the second half.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Marsaxlokk collected another three points in a 3-0 win over Gharghur. Cleaven Jeffrey Zammit opened the score on the 22nd and Alan Tabone made it 2-0 twelve minutes in the second half. Kenneth Ekezie sealed the issue with a third goal seven minutes from time.

At the Luxol Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s and Mgarr United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Jason Good put Luqa ahead on the 69th but four minutes from time Jean Paul Grima levelled matters for Mgarr.

Swieqi lead the way with 14 points followed by Fgura, Siggiewi and Birzebbuga on 11, Kalkara and Santa Lucia 10, Gudja 9, Marsaxlokk and Mgarr 8, Attard 5, St. George’s and Luqa 4 and Gharghur 2. St. George’s had two points deducted.
