Birkirkara make it five wins in a row

Champions Birkirkara overcame Swieqi United’s challenge by five goals to nil at the Mgarr Ground to collect their fifth win on the trot and join Hibernians at the top of the BOV Women’s League standings with 15 points.

Raina Giusti drew first blood on the brink of half-time. However, the Stripes had to wait nine minutes from time to make sure of the win thanks to four goals by Yasmeen Vella on the 81st, Stephania Farrugia on the 85th, Gabriella Zahra on the 86th and Raina Giusti on the 89th.

Meanwhile, Kirkop United and Raiders (Luxol) shared four goals in the match of the week at the Zebbug Ground, as they ended in a 2-2 draw which leaves Kirkop one point adrift of Raiders. Rodianne Zerafa grabbed a brace on the 11th and the 14th to open a two-goal lead in the first half for Raiders. However, goals from Alessia Caschetto on the 35th and Demi Magrin on the 58th rescued Kirkop a point.

Fgura United collected their first three points of the season when an own goal secured them a narrow victory over wooden-spoonists Mosta at the Charles Abela Stadium.

On Wednesday, Rachela Pace notches a hat-trick as Mgarr United defeated Tarxien Rainbows 7-2 at the Mgarr Ground. Angelique Schembri put Mgarr ahead on the 13th and Rebecca D’Agostino doubled the score five minutes later. Hermione Micallef reduced the gap on the 24th but Roxanne Micallef made it 3-1 on the half-hour and nine minutes later, Rachela Pace added another. Kailey Willis scored a second goal for Tarxien four minutes in the second half but Mgarr scored another three goals thanks to Roxanne Micallef on the 61st and Rachela Pace on the 70th and 73rd.
