FA Trophy: Gzira United, Hamrun Spartans cross swords in last third round matches

Gzira United and Hamrun Spartans cross swords in a direct clash at the National Stadium between two BOV Premier League clubs as the last six matches from the third round of the FA Trophy, sponsored by Boost Diesel, are played on Sunday.

The Maroons currently share third place with Hibernians, three points behind joint-leaders Valletta and Balzan while the Spartans are currently seventh on 20 points. The two teams met in October with Gzira winning 4-0.

Meanwhile the first match at the National Stadium is the derby between Marsaxlokk and Zejtun Corinthians. Marsaxlokk, currently ninth in the BOV Second Division with 14 points from ten matches, had shocked another First Division side Zabbar St. Patrick, beating them 5-0. The Corinthians, currently joint-third in the BOV First Division, on the other hand, had eliminated Dingli Swallows from Division 3 with a similar 5-0 score.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Second Division leaders Swieqi United take on Tarxien Rainbows. Swieqi lost only one game so far, collecting 23 points from ten matches in the BOV Second Division and reached this stage after defeating Third Division leaders Mellieha 2-1. Tarxien, on the other hand, are joint-second from bottom in the BOV Premier League with 7 points from twelve matches.

In the second match, Qrendi take on leaders Qormi in a clash between two teams from the BOV First Division. Qormi are still unbeaten after nine matches, dropping their only points in a draw with neighbours Zebbug. Qrendi, on the other hand, are currently ninth on 11 points. In the second round, Qrendi beat Zurrieq 3-1 while Qormi defeated Fgura United 4-1

In the first match at the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Xewkija Tigers take on First Division side Vittoriosa Stars. Xewkija, currently third in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division, eliminated two Third Division sides and a Gozitan team to reach this stage after defeating Marsaskala 4-1, SK Victoria Wanderers 4-1 and Xghajra Tornados 5-2. Vittoriosa, on the other hand, beat Gharghur 7-1. They are currently fifth in the BOV First Division on 15 points from nine matches.

In the second match, Kercem Ajax host First Division side Zebbug Rangers. Kercem are currently fourth in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division and reached this stage after eliminating Gozitans Oratory Youths on penalties following a 4-4 draw and beating Attard 2-0 after extra-time. On the other hand, Zebbug share the sixth place in the BOV First Division on 13 points from nine matches. In the second round, they defeated Sirens 3-1.
