Nicolas Chiesa appointed new Floriana FC coach

Following the resignation of Giovanni Tedesco, Floriana FC have appointed Nicolas Chiesa as their new coach.

Tedesco stepped down following the shock exit from the FA Trophy at the hands of Naxxar Lions, just a week after the Greens had suffered their first league defeat – to rivals Valletta.

Giovanni Tedesco started coaching the Allievi side of Palermo and then led Foligno in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione before moving to Malta to join Floriana in April 2014. Tedesco steered the Greens to safety in the final three league matches of season 2013/14 and then led the club to a fifth place finish at the end of season 2014/15. He moved to Birkirkara in summer 2015 but was sacked in December.

In January 2016, Tedesco was announced as new head coach of his hometown club Palermo and later as technical collaborator to coach Giovanni Bosi as new head coach with Tedesco as his technical collaborator but this only lasted around three weeks. He moved back to Malta in summer 2016 and led the Greens to FA Trophy success last season.

Thirty seven year old Nicolas Hernan Chiesa played in Romania for Politehnica Iasi before moving to Italy where he spent ten years, turning out for Grottaglie, Brindisi, Pisa, Forza e Coraggio Benevento, Martina Franca, Lupa Frascati, Lupa Roma and Lupa Castelli Romani. He joined Floriana in summer 2015 and was immediately named captain. However he spent most of this season on the sidelines, making just four appearances.
