BOV Division 1: Mqabba move back in second place

Mqabba moved back in second place as they defeated bottom-placed Rabat Ajax 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday.

Gaetano Gesualdi put Mqabba ahead just before half-time with Paul Chimezie sealing the issue with two goals – a penalty on the 50t and another goal three minutes later.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Marsa came from behind to beat Melita 2-1 in a clash between two teams from the lower part of the table. Aidan Mizzi put Melita ahead on the 38th but a brace by Marko Platisa on the 58th and 91st gave Marsa a dramatic win.

Qrendi collected three precious points thanks to a narrow win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Dhonthan Santos da Hora scored the all-important goal nine minutes from time.

In another match, Pembroke Athleta defeated Sirens by the odd goal in five. An own goal put Sirens ahead after just five minutes but Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza equalised on the 22nd. Another own goal two minutes later restored the lead for Sirens. However Mifsud Triganza was again on target on the 32nd and four minutes in the second half, Njongo Priso converted a penalty to hand Pembroke the three points.

Qormi lead the way with 29 points, followed by Mqabba on 28, Pietà 27, Vittoriosa and Zebbug 21, Sirens and Zejtun 17, Qrendi 16, San Gwann 15, Melita 11, Pembroke, Zabbar and Marsa 10 and Rabat 4.
