Xewkija keep the pace with leaders Victoria Hotspurs

Xewkija Tigers kept the pace with leaders Victoria Hotspurs in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated Kercem Ajax 4-2 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Gennaro Hili put the Tigers ahead on the 9th minute but Alen Haska equalised on the 28th. However a goal by Rodney Buttigieg on the 37th and a Thiago Melo dos Santos penalty three minutes later put Xewkija two goals ahead although just before the end of the first half, Ognjen Rolovic reduced the gap for Kercem. Another penalty by Thiago Melo Dos Santos seven minutes from time sealed the issue for Xewkija.

In another match, goals by Marcelo Barbosa on the 6th minute and Borja Polo Longarela on the 59th gave Gharb Rangers a 2-0 win over SK Victoria Wanderers.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Xaghra United held Zebbug Rovers in a most dramatic 3-3 draw at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday. Ryan Grech put Zebbug ahead on the 10th minute and five minutes later, Botshelo Gibson Mfuluane doubled the score. Seven minutes from the end of the first half, Mfuluane converted a penalty to put Zebbug three goals ahead. However six minutes from time, Adrian Xiberras reduced the gap for Xaghra, Manuel Galea converted a penalty one minute from time and Steve Sultana converted a penalty two minutes in added time to level matters.

In another match, Munxar Falcons defeated Qala Saints 4-2. Jordi Parnis put Munxar ahead on the 3rd minute but just before half-time, Michael Mumford levelled matters. Five minutes in the second half, Parnis restored the lead with Michael Matthias Uzor increasing the lead with goals on the 55th and 72nd. Mumford reduced the gap for Qala two minutes from time.
