BOV Division 2: Swieqi, Santa Lucia keep marching on

Leaders Swieqi United and second-placed Santa Lucia kept marching on in the BOV Second Division as they registered wins on Sunday.

Santa Lucia registered a comfortable 4-0 win over St. George’s at the Luxol Stadium thanks to a brace by John Nwoba on the 11th and 33rd, Clint Zammit on the hour and Lee Galea on the 87th.

Swieqi United defeated Gharghur 3-2 in a top-bottom clash at the Sirens Stadium. Ion Alin Margarit put Swieqi ahead on the 15th minute and goals by Roderick Taliana on the 21st and Kristian Sultana on the 33rd increased the lead for the leaders with Jake Lovegrove and Ronald Spina reducing the gap for Gharghur with goals on the 63rd and 77th.

Siggiewi dropped three important points in the race for promotion as they lost 1-3 to Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Luxol Stadium. Ronnie Celeste put Birzebbuga ahead two minutes in the second half and Didier Sohna doubled the score on the 78th. Ian Montanaro converted a penalty to pull one back for Siggiewi on the 81st but deep into stoppage time, Keith Muscat made it 3-1.

On the other hand, Kalkara beat Attard 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Timmy Thomas (29′) and Cristian Suarez (36′) gave Kalkara a two-goal lead with Kurt Zahra scoring a consolation goal seven minutes from time.

Swieqi lead the way with 31 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 30, Siggiewi 27, Gudja and Kalkara 26, Fgura 24, Birzebbuga 23, Marsaxlokk 22, Mgarr 18, Luqa 14, Attard 10, St. George’s 6 and Gharghur 3.
