BOV Division 3: Sta. Venera, Mellieha back on track

Leaders Sta. Venera Lightnings and second-placed Mellieha moved back on track after disappointing in recent outings in the BOV Third Division on Saturday.

At the Luxol Stadium, the Lightnings defeated Marsaskala 2-1. Chris Vella put the Lightnings ahead on the 5th minute and although Juan Gatt equalised six minutes later, a William Camilleri penalty on the 21st handed Sta. Venera the three points.

On the other hand, at the Sirens Stadium, Mellieha defeated Zurrieq 3-0 thanks to goals by Jack Vella on the 25th minute, Jean Scholey on the 31st and Jordan Debattista on the 63rd.

Msida St. Joseph and Kirkop United shared the spoils in a goalless draw in a direct clash between another two challengers for promotion at the Luxol Stadium.

Mdina Knights came from behind to beat Ta’ Xbiex 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Donovan Micallef put Ta’ Xbiex ahead on the 15th minute. Mark Saliba equalised on the 32nd and a minute later, Sam Bartolo made it 2-1. Yaron Sammut increased the lead six minutes in the second half and Mark Saliba added another on the hour.

Sta. Venera lead the way with 41 points, followed by Mellieha on 38, Kirkop 32, Xghajra 31, Msida 29, Mdina 27, Dingli 20, Ghaxaq 19, Zurrieq 18, Mtarfa 11, Ta’ Xbiex and Marsaskala 8.
