The head-to-head between Hibernians and Birkirkara at the top of the BOV Women’s League continued this week as both teams earned the three points, in different ways.

Hibernians claimed a 4-0 win over Raiders (Luxol) following a convincing performance at the Charles Abela Stadium. On the other side, Birkirkara were awarded a 3-0 win after Tarxien Rainbows failed to honour their league encounter, last Tuesday.

The Paolites, who have now moved to 38 points, opened the score inside 11 minutes through former Raiders player Emma Xuereb. Despite dominating the game, they had to wait until the hour mark to double their lead through Dorianne Theuma, who was scoring her 15th of the season. Returning from a long-term injury, Ylenia Carabott continued to build up on her impressive return, extending the lead before long-time Hibernians defender Charlene Zammit sealed the win with a late goal.

In the other Section A tie, Mġarr United chalked up a 5-2 win over Kirkop United as they open a three-point lead over Raiders at third place. After a goalless stalemate in the first 45 minutes, the Reds opened the score on 50 minutes through promising striker Demi Magrin. Nonetheless, the goal seemed to have lifted the Greens as they scored five times without reply. Maria Mizzi and Rebecca D’Agostino grabbed a brace each before Amber Grech making it 5-1 to virtually take maximum points. Magrin found the consolation goal for Kirkop in the closing stages of the game.

Meanwhile, Swieqi United hit five past Fgura United in the only encounter from Section B. The Oranges have now opened a five-point lead at the top of the three-team section over this week’s opponents with Mosta at the bottom, having registered only a sole point. It was Fgura who drew first blood when Aleksandra Marinovic scored on 25 minutes. Swieqi’s reply came after the change of ends when Aleksandra Georgieva converted from the penalty spot to level terms. Krista Montfort turned the the score around 15 minutes from time before late goals from Daniela Farrugia twice and Amy Gingell Galea rounded up the victory.
