BOV Division 1: Zejtun beat Qormi to move second

A goal by Ryan Dalli eight minutes from time handed Zejtun Corinthians three precious points in the battle for promotion as they defeated leaders Qormi at the Centenary Stadium in one of our matches from the BOV First Division on Saturday. A win which puts Zejtun in second place, six points behind Qormi.

Zebbug Rangers maintained their hopes alive thanks to a 3-1 in a direct clash with San Gwann at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, therefore bringing the latter’s impressive run of eight consecutive wins to an end. Leighton Grech put Zebbug ahead on the 14th, Sergio Hili equalised on the 21st and Arilson Mello da Silva restored the lead four minutes in the second half. Deep in stoppage time, Larson Mallia converted a penalty to seal the issue for the Rangers.

At the Centenary Stadium, Mqabba dropped another two important points as they were held in a goalless draw by Zabbar St. Patrick.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Pembroke Athleta defeated Qrendi 2-1 courtesy of Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza on the 10th and Njongo Priso on the 44th with Dhonatan Santos da Hora reducing the gap on the 82nd when he converted a penalty.

Qormi lead the way with 50 points, followed by Zejtun on 44, Pietà on 43, Mqabba 42, Zebbug 41, San Gwann 39, Vittoriosa 34, Qrendi 26, Sirens 25, Pembroke 25, Zabbar 20, Marsa 18, Melita 14 and Rabat 5.
