The Malta Football Association released the fixtures for match-day 24 in the BOV Second Division where the championship, promotion, relegation and the teams to take part in the play-offs are yet to be determined.

Sat-14-Apr-2018 16:00 Centenary Stadium Santa Lucia vs Siggiewi
Sat-14-Apr-2018 18:15 Centenary Stadium Gharghur vs Attard
Sat-14-Apr-2018 16:00 Luxol Stadium Gudja United vs Fgura United
Sat-14-Apr-2018 18:15 Luxol Stadium Mgarr United vs St. George’s
Sat-14-Apr-2018 16:00 Sirens Stadium Marsaxlokk vs Swieqi United
Sat-14-Apr-2018 18:15 Sirens Stadium Luqa St. Andrew’s vs Birzebbuga St. Peter’s

Gudja United lead the way with 46 points, followed by Santa Lucia on 45, Swieqi United 44, Fgura United and Siggiewi 40, Marsaxlokk 36, Kalkara and Mgarr United 35, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 33, Luqa St. Andrew’s 22, Attard 16, St. George’s 15 and Gharghur 6.

The championship and promotion is therefore a matter for three teams – Gudja, Santa Lucia and Swieqi.

Gudja would be declared champions if they beat Fgura or if they get a draw and both Santa Lucia and Swieqi fail to win or even if both they and Santa Lucia lose and Swieqi fail to beat Marsaxlokk. A championship decider with Santa Lucia would be necessary if they lose to Fgura, Santa Lucia are held in a draw while Swieqi fail to beat Marsaxlokk. A championsip decider with Swieqi would be necessary if they are held in a draw by Fgura and Swieqi win while Santa Lucia fail to beat Siggiewi. Gudja would still be promoted in case of a draw if Swieqi fail to win and even if they lose to Fgura and Swieqi fail to win or if they lose to Fgura, Santa Lucia lose to Siggiewi and Swieqi beat Marsaxlokk.

To be crowned champions, Santa Lucia would need a win over Siggiewi, hoping that Gudja fail to beat Fgura. In case of a draw for Santa Lucia, a defeat for Gudja while Swieqi fail to beat Marsaxlokk, a championship decider would be necessary between Gudja and Santa Lucia. Santa Lucia would still be promoted in case they win and Gudja win as well; in case of a draw and Swieqi fail to win and in case they and Swieqi both lose. A promotion decider would be necessary between Swieqi and Santa Lucia should Santa Lucia lose to Siggiewi and Swieqi are held in a draw by Marsaxlokk.

The only way for Swieqi to claim the title is that they beat Marsaxlokk, Gudja lose to Fgura and Santa Lucia fail to beat Marsaxlokk. A championsip decider with Gudja would be necessary if they beat Marsaxlokk and Gudja are held in a draw by Fgura while Santa Lucia fail to beat Siggiewi. Swieqi would still win promotion if they win, Gudja beat Fgura and Santa Lucia fail to beat Siggiewi or if they win, Santa Lucia beat Siggiewi and Gudja lose to Fgura.

Meanwhile at the lower part of the table, Attard and St. George’s are still battling out to avoid the second relegation spot after Gharghur were condemned to Division 3 earlier. One point separates the two teams and therefore Attard have to beat Gharghur to take the play-off spot and condemn St. George’s to relegation. The Saints, on the other hand, hope to beat Mgarr United and that Attard fail to beat Gharghur. In that case, Attard would be relegated and St. George’s would take part in the play-off against the team placing third in Division 3.
