BOV Women’s League: Stripes stay top ahead of Hibs clash

Birkirkara preserved their BOV Women’s League leadership ahead of next week’s game against Hibernians where if they manage to at least take a point, they clinch their second straight championship, after beating Mġarr United 3-1. On the other hand, Hibernians ran rampant against Tarxien Rainbows as they defeated them 10-0 to keep track of the Stripes.

Birkirkara found themselves one goal down inside two minutes when Rebecca D’Agostino opened the score for the Greens. Nonetheless, the Stripes found a way to turn around the score to their favour through Tracy Teuma (5) and Stephania Farrugia (12). Young Veronique Mifsud wrapped up the win with a late goal for the defending champions.

Meanwhile, Dorianne Theuma (21, 32, 37, 63, 85) scored five goals in Hibs’ large win over neighbours Tarxien. Ylenia Carabott (34, 47) added a brace while the other goals were scored by Jade Flask (59), Francesca Chircop (74) and Kayleigh Chetcuti (83).

In the other game from the championship pool, Raiders (Luxol) defeated Kirkop United 2-1 with the winning goal notched by Sarah Caruana in stoppage time. Rodianne Zerafa had drew first blood for the Violets on minute 47 before Kirkop equalised through Liis Pello.

Elsewhere, Swieqi United defeated Fgura United 2-1, in the relegation pool. Aleksandra Georgieva scored twice on minute 33 and 43 after Kirsty Paris had netted an own goal on the 18th minute.
