BOV Division 1: Qormi celebrate championship with a win

Qormi celebrated the BOV First Division championship title with a 2-1 win over San Gwann in their final match at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Tensior Gusman put them ahead on the 18th minute and although Godwin Henshaw equalised two minutes later, Qormi regained the lead thanks to Iven Zammit on the 71st minute.

Pietà Hotspurs registered a 4-2 win over Zejtun Cortinthians at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. The Hotspurs took the lead thanks to Juan Manuel Artiago Roa on the 36th minute while Nicholas Pisani and Jan Busuttil scored between the 65th and 69th to put them three goals ahead. Zejtun reduced the gap thanks to goals by Adrian Carabott on the 74th and Omar El Hussieny on the 76th but Lawrence Chiedozie sealed the issue for Pietà with a goal in added time.

Qrendi secured their First Division status as they defeated Vittoriosa Stars 5-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Aaron Agius on the 15th, 57th and 58th, Shunsuke Nakamura on the 28th and Julio Cesar Souza Martins four minutes from time.

On the other hand, Zabbar St. Patrick will be contesting the First Division Play-Off against Second Division side Swieqi United after losing 1-3 to Zebbug Rangers. Aud-Gustine James Obaje put Zebbug ahead on the 25th minute. Larson Mallia doubled the score on the 59th and although Aidan Agius Gilford pulled one back four minutes later, Larson Mallia made it 3-1 ten minutes from time.

Qormi therefore ended their commitments on 59 points, followed by Pietà on 55, Zejtun 48, Zebbug 47, Mqabba 46, San Gwann 42, Vittoriosa 35, Pembroke 31, Qrendi 29, Sirens and Marsa 28, Zabbar 23, Melita 19 and Rabat 5.
