Birkirkara defeat Hibernians to reach Women’s Knock-Out semi-finals

A week after defeating their biggest rivals 4-1 and clinch their sixth championship, Birkirkara added insult to injury to Hibernians after they emerged winners 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Knock-Out to leave Hibs trophy less for yet another season. The Stripes will meet Raiders (Luxol) in the semi-finals, after the latter eliminated Tarxien Rainbows 4-2 after penalties as the score remained goalless at the end of the ninety minutes and extra-time.

Birkirkara drew first blood on minute 59 through Tracy Teuma. Melania Bajada’s clan doubled their lead on 68 minutes when young Veronique Mifsud hit the base of the net. They made sure of the win ten minutes from time when Joselene Gafa found the third goal. Just like last week, Dorianne Theuma found a consolation goal for Hibernians as she scored on the 82nd minute.

Meanwhile Mgarr United and Kirkop United will be facing each other in the other semi-final as both emerged as winners in the other two quarter-finals.

Mgarr defeated Fgura United 6-0 courtesy of a Roxanne Micallef hat-trick – on the 2nd, 45th and 55th, Rebecca D’Agostino on the 27th and a brace by Brenda Borg on the 40th and 88th.

On the other hand, a goal by Emily Pace on the 35th minute handed Kirkop United a narrow win over Swieqi United.

Semi-finals:
May 8, Kirkop United vs Mġarr United
May 9, Birkirkara vs Raiders (Luxol)

Both matches will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium, kick-off at 20:00.
