Valletta chase first points in clash with rivals Birkirkara

After losing the first two matches, champions Valletta will be all out to claim their first points this season as they take on Birkirkara at the National Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 20:00, in one of the four matches in programme.

In their first two outings, the Citizens lost 0-3 to Sliema and then suffered a 1-2 defeat to Hibernians. A third negative result is something Danilo Doncic’s side cannot afford.

The Stripes, on the other hand, target a third consecutive win after back-to-back wins over Balzan and Pietà Hotspurs.

Valletta should have new recruit Bojan Kaljevic making his debut. On the other hand, Birkirkara’s Cain Attard is ruled out through suspension.

In the first match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Hamrun Spartans take on St. Andrews

The Spartans defeated Floriana 2-0 in their first outing and then held Gzira United in a goalless draw. The Saints, on the other hand, managed to beat Mosta 3-1 but then lost heavily to Tarxien Rainbows, 1-5.

In the first match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Mosta face Tarxien Rainbows.

Mosta bounced back from the defeat to St. Andrews with a 2-0 win over Senglea in their last outing. On the other hand, Tarxien recovered well from a 1-4 defeat to Gzira with a 5-1 win over St. Andrews.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 20:15, Sliema Wanderers take on neighbours Gzira United.

The Wanderers had a perfect start thanks to a 3-0 win over Valletta and a 1-0 victory over Floriana. The Maroons, on the other hand, defeated Tarxien 4-1 but were then held in a draw by Hamrun.

Fernando Barbosa and Haruna Garba are available for selection for Gzira after joining the club in recent weeks.
