Hotspurs defeat Nadur as BOV Gozo Football League First Division kicks-off

The BOV Gozo Football League First Division kicked-off this weekend with the first four matches. Champions Victoria Hotspurs registered a 3-2 win over Nadur Youngsters in the big match at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Elton Alexandre Da Silva put the Hotspurs ahead on the 18th minute but Marcelo Junior Barbosa converted a penalty to level matters on the 37th. Yuri de Jesus Messias put Nadur 2-1 ahead two minutes from the end of the first half. However three minutes in the second half, Elton Alexandre da Silva restored equilibrium and the Brazilian notched the winner on the 56th when he converted a penalty.

In another match on Sunday, Ghajnsielem and Gharb Rangers shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz put Gharb ahead on the 23rd, Damon Hili equalised on the 48th and five minutes later, Luis Andre De Melo Lima made it 2-1 for the Blacks. However Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz equalised on the 66th.

On Friday, Munxar Falcons registered a fine 3-1 win over Kercem Ajax. Matthias Michael Uzor gave Munxar the lead on the 34th and three minutes later, Leiner Garcia Panesso converted a penalty to double the score. Felipe Augusto De Oliviera reduced the gap on the 77th but Leiner Garcia Panesso made it 3-1 two minutes from time.

In another match, Xewkija Tigers found no difficulty in beating SK Victoria Wanderers 5-0. Darko Krstic put Xewkija ahead on the 3rd minute and Claudio Antunes Pavlidis doubled the score on the 25th. Nine minutes in the second half, Darko Krstic made it 3-0 with Christian Bugeja adding another three minutes later. Claudio Antunes Pavlidis scored a fifth goal on the 68th minute.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Oratory Youths beat St Laurence Spurs 2-0 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium. Aleandro Thomas Bezzina put them ahead on the 21st minute and Keith Farrugia doubled the score on the 50th.

On Saturday, Sannat Lions defeated Qala Saints 4-2. Joseph Zammit put Sannat ahead on the 29th and three minutes later, Ralph Ebube Okpokwu doubled the score. Eric Gauci made it 3-0 on the 55th but Frank Attard reduced the gap two minutes later. Ralph Ebube Okpokwu extended the lead on the 58th but Gibson Botshelo Mfuluane scored a second goal for Qala on the 62nd.

In another match, Zebbug Rovers defeated Xaghra United 3-1 thanks to goals by Marcos Peres Vega on the 7th and 11th and Lucas Farrugia on the 54th. John Camilleri converted a penalty on the 77th to score a consolation goal for Xaghra.
