Gzira United will be aiming for a fourth consecutive win on Saturday as they take on Qormi at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 15:00. A win which would put them three points clear of Sliema Wanderers and four ahead of Balzan and Valletta.
The Maroons are the only unbeaten side in the BOV Premier League with four wins and a draw so far. In their last three matches, they managed to overcome the challenge of Sliema, Hibernians and Birkirkara and a win over Qormi would extend their unbeaten streak to six matches. Qormi, however, are eager for points as they lie third from bottom on four points after losing their last two matches against Valletta and Floriana.
Gzira will be without the suspended Amadou Samb.
Meanwhile in the other match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 17:15, St. Andrews take on Birkirkara.
The Stripes lost two out of the last three matches – including last week’s 1-2 defeat to Gzira – and will be all out to claim the three points in order to join Valletta and Balzan on the 12-point mark. St. Andrews, on the other hand, suffered a fourth consecutive defeat in their last outing, suffering a 0-2 defeat to Hibernians, and are currently second from bottom.
In the first match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 15:00, Floriana take on bottom-placed Senglea Athletic.
The Greens won two out of the five games played so far and a win is a must in their bid to climb further up the table. Last week, they defeated Qormi 3-1. Senglea, on the other hand, are coming from a 1-5 defeat to Valletta after opening their account with a 1-1 draw with Pietà in the previous game.
The second match in programme at the National Stadium is the Tarxien Rainbows vs Hibernians derby, kick-off at 17:00.
After suffering back-to-back defeats to Floriana and Gzira, Hibernians returned to winning ways as they defeated St. Andrews 2-0 and a win on Saturday would put them in joint-third place with Valletta, Balzan and possibly Birkirkara. Tarxien, however, hope to upset their neighbours and rivals as they look forward to bounce back from the 1-3 defeat to Sliema last week. They are currently on six points, three behind the Paolites.
Michele Paolucci is ruled out for Tarxien as he serves a one-match ban.
