Ten-man Gzira register narrow win over Senglea

Gzira United maintained their unbeaten record in the BOV Premier League as they defeated Senglea Athletic 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium to move temporarily six points clear.

This was the sixth win in as many matches for the Maroons and the sixth defeat in seven matches for Senglea.

Both had two changes from their last outings as Thomas Veronese and Amadou Samb replaced Zach Scerri and Sacha Borg for Gzira while Kieran Xuereb and Braian Volpini were preferred to Leighton Grech and Karl Cutajar for Senglea.

Gzira had captain Andrew Cohen sent off after just four minutes after hitting Federico Salvati after being provoked by the Senglea captain.

However six minutes in the second half, the Maroons scored the all-important goal thanks to Amadou Samb who concluded a solo effort by pulling from the right to a more central position before beating Farrugia with a rising shot.
