Stripes return to winning ways

Birkirkara returned to winning ways as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts Birkirkara on the 12-point mark together with Balzan and Hibernians, who however have a game in hand. For the Rainbows, this was the third consecutive defeat. They remain fourth from bottom on six points.

Despite the shock defeat to St. Andrews, Birkirkara had only one change as new recruit – Montenegrin striker Petar Orlandic – replaced Michael Mifsud. Tarxien, on the other hand, had Matthew Spiteri and Miguel Ciantar replacing Radu Rogac and Daniel Zerafa.

Birkirkara took the lead on the 32nd minute when Eduardo Mancha served Petar Orlandic who headed home past Andrea Cassar.

The Stripes doubled on the 64th minute thanks to an own goal following a Jake Grech corner from the right and a header by Andre Scicluna which saw the Tarxien goalkeeper turning the ball into his own net.
