Darko Krstic brace sinks Hotspurs

Champions Victoria Hotspurs suffered their first defeat in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they lost 0-2 to Xewkija Tigers at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Krstic put the Tigers ahead on the 26th and doubled the score on the 61st.

Nadur Youngsters missed an excellent opportunity to join the Hotspurs on top after being held in a 1-1 draw by Kercem Ajax on Friday. Marcelo Junior Barbosa put Nadur ahead on the 57th but Felipe Augusto De Oliviera converted a penalty six minutes from time to level matters.

Ghajnsielem moved third thanks to a 2-0 win over SK Victoria Wanderers on Sunday. Luis Andre de Melo Lima opened the score on the 5th minute and after Ali Oularbi hit the crossbar from a penalty on the 78th, de Melo Lima sealed the issue with a second goal six minutes from time.

In another match on Friday, Gharb Rangers defeated Munxar Falcons 2-0 thanks to goals by Daniel Azzopardi on the 9th minute and a Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz penalty on the 84th.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday, leaders Sannat Lions were held in a 1-1 draw by Oratory Youths. Ralph Ebube Okpokwu put the Lions ahead on the 6th minute thanks to a penalty but Paul Said equalised for Oratory on the 74th.

Xaghra United joined Oratory in second place thanks to a 2-1 win over Qala Saints. The latter took the lead through Frank Attard on the 21st. Gabriel Farrugia equalised on the 45th and nine minutes from time, Johnny Camilleri converted a penalty to hand Xaghra the three points.

In another match, St. Lawrence Spurs defeated Zebbug Rovers 2-1 thanks to goals by Charles Mercieca on the 31st and James Grima two minutes later with Marcos Perez Vega reducing the gap four minutes in the second half.
