Kevaughn Atkinson brace shocks Balzan

Balzan disappointed once again as a brace by Kevaughn Atkinson gave St. Andrews a 2-0 win over Marko Micovic’s side at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday

St. Andrews therefore bounce back from the surprise defeat to Senglea and now join Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans on the 12-point mark. Balzan, on the other hand, suffer a second consecutive defeat and the third one in four matches.

Following the defeat to Gzira, Balzan had three changes with Harry Ascroft, Michael Johnson and Andrija Majdevac replacing Dale Camilleri, Ivan Bozovic and the suspended Nenad Sljivic. St. Andrews, on the other hand, had Alex Satariano and Aidan Friggieri replacing Karl Pulo and Jacob Walker in the starting line-up following the shock defeat to Senglea.

St. Andrews took the lead on the 16th minute when a defender handled the ball inside the area and Kevaughn Atkinson converted from the penalty spot.

One minute from the end of the first half, the Saints doubled the score when following a good run by Martin Davis, his cross was not held by Steve Sultana and Kevaughn Atkinson placed the ball at the back of the net.
