Narrow win for Floriana condemns Mosta to fourth successive defeat

Floriana returned to winning ways thanks to a narrow win over Mosta at the National Stadium on Sunday.

For the Greens, this was the first win after three defeats in their previous three matches. Mosta, on the other hand, suffered a fourth successive defeat.

Floriana welcomed back Enzo Ruiz after missing the clash with Valletta. Alex Cini and Ignacio Varela were also named the starting line-up. The three replaced Mohammed Sales, Clyde Borg and Arthur Henrique. The Blues, on the other hand, had three changes as Kurt Zammit, Misael Miranda Gomez and Kei Hirose replaced Maycon Goncalves, Renan Oliveira and Jurgen Grech.

The Greens managed to take the lead on the 10th minute after Tyrone Farrugia was adjudged by referee Fyodor Zammit to have handled the ball inside the area following a cross by Juninho Cabral; from the penalty spot, Clayton Failla made no mistake.

Floriana maintained the pressure and a cross by Maurizio Vella was partially saved by Andreas Vella and off the rebound, the ball reached Vella once again whose cross shot was turned into a corner by the Mosta custodian.

Mosta replied with a cross by Juri Cisotti for Zachary Brincat whose close turned into a corner by Ini Etim Akpan. Just before half-time, Emerson Marcelina, served by Ignacio Varela, headed high.

Early in the second half, Zachary Brincat had an angled shot from the right blocked into a corner by Akpan. Floriana replied with a Juninho Cabral free kick from the left which hit the crossbar on the 59th. Mosta, on the other hand, went close with a Zachary Brincat effort from outside the area which was turned into a corner by Andreas Vella. A minute later, following a cross by James Brincat from the right, Renan Oliveira’s header was turned into a corner by the Mosta goalkeeper.
