Birkirkara defeat Mgarr United in top-of-the-table clash

Champions Birkirkara keep marching on in the BOV Women’s League thanks to a 2-1 win over Mgarr United in a top-of-the-table clash at the Mgarr Ground on Wednesday.

The Stripes took the lead on the 12th minute thanks to Kailey Willis and three minutes later, Willis doubled the score. Hayley Bugeja pulled one back for Mgarr on the 68th minute.

Hibernians moved second thanks to a narrow win over Kirkop United at the Charles Abela Stadium on Tuesday. Jade Flask scored the all-important goal on the 75th minute.

Raiders (Luxol) registered their first win as they beat Mosta 4-0 at the Mgarr Ground. A Leanne Micallef hat-trick on the 12th, 20th and 63rd gave Raiders a three-goal lead with Becky Naudi adding another on the 70th.

In another match, Fgura United and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a 5-5 draw at the Fgura Ground. Eliza Csik put Swieqi ahead on the 4th minute but Janice Pace equalised on the 9th minute and three minutes later, Kylie Monaco made it 2-1 for Fgura. Simone Buttigieg levelled matters on the 19th minute when she converted a penalty but Fgura hit back with a goal by Sarah Grech on the 22nd, an Ilena Navarro penalty on the 26th and a goal by Kylie Monaco on the 43rd to give Fgura a 5-2 lead by the end of the first half. Six minutes in the second half Elise Abela reduced the gap for Swieqi while late goals by Amy Galea Gingell on the 88th and Yolande Attard a minute later rescued a point for Swieqi.
