Four teams secure FA Trophy fourth round spot

Gzira United, Balzan and Second Division sides Fgura United and Melita secured a place in the fourth round of the FA Trophy after emerging as winners in the four third round matches in programme on Saturday after the two matches scheduled at the Hibernians Stadium were postponed.

At the Centenary Stadium, Gzira United defeated Second Division side Rabat Ajax 4-0. Juan Corbalan put the Maroon ahead on the 37th minute but they had to wait until the 66th to double the score thanks to another Corbalan goal. Andrew Cohen made it 3-0 on the 79th minute and four minutes later, Zachary Scerri added another.

Melita await Gzira in the fourth round.

In the second match at the Centenary Stadium, Balzan defeated First Division side Qrendi 5-1 and will now face Gudja United or Xewkija Tigers in the fourth round.

Carlos Eduardo de Fiori Mendes opened the score on the 10th minute and seven minutes later, Andrija Majdevac doubled the score. Ciro Quaranta reduced the gap on the 24th minute but on the half-hour, Ricardo Calixto Correa made it 3-1. Two minutes from half-time, Majdevac scored the fourth goal for Balzan. Andrija Majdevac added another on the 73rd minute

Second Division side Fgura United surprised First Division side San Gwann as they defeated them 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Fgura, who had eliminated Ghaxaq in the previous round, will be meeting Hibernians in the fourth round.

Thomas Francis Grech scored the all-important goal on the 77th minute.

In the second match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Melita defeated Siggiewi 3-1 in a clash between two Second Division sides.

Luke Mifsud four minutes from the end of the first half. Karl Mohnani doubled the score on the 66th. Kim Buhagiar pulled one back for Siggiewi ten minutes later. However seven minutes from time, Luke Mifsud restored the two-goal lead for Melita.
