Swieqi United joined Lija Athletic in third place in the BOV First Division as they defeated Zejtun Corinthians 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Mirco Vella put Swieqi ahead on the 12th minute and although Ryan Spiteri equalised on the 28th, penalties by Gianluca Calabretta on the 52nd and Tejumola Ebenezer Ayorinde in added time gave Swieqi the three points.

Qrendi, on the other hand, joined Gudja in fifth place thanks to a 3-2 win over bottom-placed Marsa. Ciro Quaranta put Qrendi ahead on the 20th minute, Peter Anizoba equalised on the 35th, Dasser Sammut 2-1 for Qrendi on the 68th and Mark Gauci restored the equilibrium on the 86th. However Sammut notched the winner deep into stoppage time.

Santa Lucia lead the way with 19 points, followed by Sirens on 18, Lija and Swieqi 16, Qrendi and Gudja 14, Vittoriosa and Zebbug 13, Pembroke and Mqabba 12, Naxxar 11, Zejtun 8, San Gwann 6 and Marsa 5.
