Gzira rescue a point in dramatic 3-3 draw with Mosta

Gzira United scored deep into stoppage time to rescue a point in a dramatic 3-3 draw with Mosta at the National Stadium on Sunday. A draw which put them on level points with Valletta on the 28-point mark.

Mosta managed to take a two-goal lead with Hibernians hitting back with two late goals. The Blues regained on the lead on the 90th with Andrew Cohen notching on the 93rd minute.

Thanks to this draw, Mosta brought to an end a disappointing run of six consecutive defeats in the last six league matches although they had defeated Senglea Athletic in the FA Trophy last week. However they are still third from bottom.

Rafael Morisco da Silva put the Blues ahead on the 9th minute as he headed the ball home off a corner from the left by Juri Cisotti.

Mosta doubled the score on the 58th minute thanks to Akeem Roach who concluded a solo effort with a low shot from the edge of the area which beat goalkeeper Justin Haber.

Gzira reduced the gap on the 83rd minutes when off a corner by Roderick Briffa from the right, a header by Jorginho hit the upright and Edison Bilbao Zarate placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound with another header.

Two minutes from time, the Maroons restored equilibrium with a cross shot by Andrew Cohen from the left which beat goalkeeper Andreas Vella.

Mosta regained the lead on the 90th minute when Juri Cisotti advanced into the area on the left, serving Akeem Roach who tapped the ball home from close range.

The striker from Trinidad and Tobago was then sent off on the 92nd minute after picking a second yellow card.

Three minutes in added time, Gzira restored equilibrium when off a cross by Thomas Veronese, Andrew Cohen slotted the ball past the Mosta goalkeeper with a fine shot from just inside the area.
