BOV Division 1: Santa Lucia extend unbeaten run to thirteen matches

Santa Lucia came from behind to beat Lija Athletic 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday to extend their unbeaten record and join Sirens on top the BOV First Division table.

Erjon Beu converted a penalty to put Lija ahead on the 15th minute but an own goal levelled matters on the hour and Paul Lapira notched the winner two minutes later.

Zejtun Corinthians moved joint-fifth thanks to a third consecutive win as they defeated Qrendi 4-1 in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Johan Castano scored twice on the 24th and the half-hour to put Zejtun two goals ahead. Ryan Dalli reduced the gape two minutes from half-time but Castano made it 3-1 eight minutes in the second half and Clayton Giordimaina sealed the issue with another goal thirteen minutes from time.

Meanwhile in a match from the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zebbug Rangers and Pembroke Athleta shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Kurt Borg gave Pembroke the lead on the 5th minute but five minutes later, Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva equalised from the penalty spot.

Santa Lucia and Sirens lead the way with 27 points, followed by Gudja on 20, Lija 19, Zejtun, Swieqi, Qrendi and Naxxar 17, Pembroke 16, Zebbug 15, Vittoriosa 14, Mqabba 13, San Gwann 9 and Marsa 5.
